10/28-11/1

This week we are finishing up learning about 10 of the largest rivers in Colorado: Rio Grande, Arkansas River, Colorado River, Canadian River, Green River​, North Platte River, Cimarron River, Smoky Hill River​, South Platte River, and the San Juan River​.​
 
Students will create a short presentation.

10/21-10/25

This week we are presenting our Safe Hiking Posters and move into our unit on Colorado Rivers. We are going to learn about 10 of the largest rivers in Colorado: Rio Grande, Arkansas River, Colorado River, Canadian River, Green River​, North Platte River, Cimarron River, Smoky Hill River​, South Platte River, and the San Juan River​.​

10/14-10/18

Students will create safe hiking posters for 14ers/trails while also learning about different topographical features and their impact on the surrounding environment. For their posters, students will research different mountain ranges, heights of 14ers, climate, and safe hiking practices. 

 

9/23-9/26

We are continuing to work on our Colorado topography and rivers unit. Students will create safe hiking posters for trails while also learning about different topographical features and the impact they have on the surrounding environment.

9/16-9/20

Students will present their Colorado Cities Itinerary projects to their classmates. Then, we will transition into a unit on Colorado topography and rivers. Students will learn about safe hiking practices, mountain vs. mountain range, mountain range research, and big horn sheep.

9/9-9/13

This week students are continuing their research about Colorado's major cities. By Friday, students will create a three to five day itinerary to a major Colorado city. It will include accommodations, places to eat, activities to do, and more. Students will be practicing their research skills through this project.  

9/2-9/6

This week students are continuing their research about Colorado's major cities. Students are learning about the history, climate, landforms/topography, and activities you can do in each major city. After conducting their research, students will create a 3-5 day road trip to the city of their choice (Denver, Grand Junction, Pueblo, Colorado Springs, Boulder, or Durango). 

8/27-8/30

Students are wrapping up their final projects on the Intermontane Basin, the Colorado Plateau, the Rocky Mountains, and the Great Plains regions in Colorado. Then, we will shift our focus to learning about Colorado’s major cities. 

8/19-23

We are starting our unit about Colorado regions! Students will learn about the flora/fauna, geographical features, culture, and major cities associated with the four regions. They will dive deep into the Intermontane Basin, the Colorado Plateau, the Great Plains, and the Rocky Mountains.

8/12-8/16

Fourth grade social studies is all about the lovely state of Colorado! We will spend the whole year learning about Colorado’s history and connect it to our lives today. 

We are starting off our venture into Colorado by analyzing our state flag. Students will conduct research about our state symbols and then use their research to create a new Colorado flag that they feel better represents the state.
