This week we continue learning about the Ute Tribe (Mountain Ute and Southern Ute) and the Ancestral Puebloans. We will compare and contrast the different cultures and learn about their interactions with the colonizers in Colorado.
This week we will finish up our lesson on refugees and begin to learn about the history and impact of the Ute Mountain tribe and the Southern Ute tribe in Colorado.
For this quarter, we will be focusing on this essential question (among others): How have past events influenced present-day Colorado and the Rocky Mountain region?
12/16-12/20
This week, we are exploring the courage of refugees, both in our country and around the world. We will also draw connections to the experiences of Indigenous people in our own country, who have faced displacement from their homes.
Reminder: We have a field trip to the History Colorado Center on Friday!
12/9-12/13
This week we are learning about reading coordinates on maps in Colorado and where different Indigenous tribes are from.
12/2-12/6
This week we are focusing on Indigenous people and constellations. Students will learn the importance of oral history, myth, and nature/earth in different cultures. Students will also create their own constellation pattern.
This week we are combining our introduction to the Indigenous tribes in Colorado with a lesson on the true history of Thanksgiving. Students will learn about the tribes affected by the Europeans on the East Coast and connect it back to what we are learning in Colorado.
11/12-11/15
This week we are finishing our short unit on Voting Rights in the United States. Students will get to explore digital museums and learn about the history of voting in the United States and Colorado. We will focus heavily on the suffrage movement and access to voting. Then, we will transition into our introduction to Indigenous populations in Colorado.
This week we will take a quick detour from our normal schedule to learn about voting history and voting rights in the United States. Then, we will begin a unit that is an introduction to Indigenous populations in Colorado. As we progress throughout the year, we will learn more about specific tribes and events in Colorado history (and the current day).
