blue divider lineAPRIL Advocacy Theme:

This month, our Advocacy theme is Social Awareness. By teaching kids to recognize and respect different perspectives, we foster a more inclusive and compassionate community. Activities like role-playing, group discussions, and community service can effectively build these skills. Encouraging children to express their feelings and listen to others promotes emotional intelligence and strengthens their ability to navigate social situations positively.

THANK YOU, PARENTS!

We want to put out a heartfelt THANK YOU to all the parents who took the time to leave encouraging notes to their students for the testing days. We know that every little bit helps to keep them inspired and on track for good results.

REMINDER TESTING INFO:

It is imperative to have your students attend school and be on time on their scheduled CMAS testing dates. Tests start first thing in the morning. Students who are tardy may not be eligible to test as they cannot be admitted to sessions that have already begun. They would then need to take part in one of the make-up sessions.

OPT OUT- If you have opted out your student from testing sessions, know that they will not be allowed in the testing classrooms and will be given work to do in the conference rooms. They will not be allowed to use a computer. (more information below)

  • Please note that CMAS testing begins on Tuesday, April 8, after returning from Spring Break.
  • April 8-10: Grades 3-8 will begin with Math, Science, and Social Studies testing
  • April 15-17: Grades 3–8 will take ELA tests.
  • All testing sessions are scheduled for the mornings on each of those days.
  • CMAS scores allow us to measure the effectiveness of our curriculum and see how we stack against other schools in the state and nationally.
Updated CMAS Schedule

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION

3rd & 4th Grade class poses with Dr. John MatsushimaCattle, Corn, & Courage

Westgate had a special guest in the month of March! Dr. John Matsushima is a world-renowned rancher and professor who invented a process of steam-flaking corn for feeding cattle that is used world-wide. The 3rd and 4th graders learned more about where their food comes from through a unique program offered by the Colorado Agriculture in the Classroom. At 104-years-old Dr. Matsushima still makes visits to schools giving students a piece of his wisdom, "Good food plus good water equals long life!"
