Welcome to Whole Child
Welcome to Whole Child Education
Since its inception, Westgate Community School was founded on Whole Child Education tenets. We believe that students are more than their test scores, more than their academic talents, and more than just another student we pass through each year. Students are unique, creative individuals who bring different strengths and talents to our community. They are capable of accomplishing great things, and they are inherent gifts to our school and society. They offer hope of a better future. Our job is to ensure that we foster a learning environment that supports the whole child.
ASCD defines the Whole Child Approach this way: “Each child, in each school, in each of our communities deserves to be healthy, safe, engaged, supported, and challenged. That’s what a whole child approach to learning, teaching, and community engagement really is.”
At Westgate, that means creating an educational approach elevated by the following pillars: MIND, BODY and COMMUNITY.
