Social Emotional Learning - Every Day
We call it "Advocacy" instead of "Homeroom"
At Westgate Community School, we prioritize the holistic development of our students through our Advocacy program, formerly known as "Homeroom." Advocacy serves as a cornerstone for students, providing a home base where they can forge supportive relationships with peers and trusted adults, fostering a sense of belonging within our school community.
- Each day begins with an Advocacy Circle, ensuring that every student is seen, heard, affirmed, and valued. Through these circles, Advocates engage with students to understand their social and emotional needs, creating a supportive environment where every individual feels recognized and welcomed.
- During the dedicated Advocacy block, students convene with their faculty Advocate for tailored activities aimed at nurturing their social and emotional growth, enhancing career readiness, and bolstering academic success. These sessions offer opportunities for positive peer interaction, the development of essential life skills, and guidance to surmount educational, personal, and social challenges.
A robust Advocacy program is instrumental in fostering a positive school culture where every member of our community can thrive. At Westgate Community School, we recognize the importance of Advocacy in nurturing the holistic well-being of our students and fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence and personal growth.
