Staff Profile
Hi there, Westgate Community Scholars and Families!
My name is Alexia Vasilopoulos (Ms. V for short), and I am so grateful to be joining the team as the High School & Specials Assistant Principal and Whole Child Coordinator for my second year! My passions have always involved ensuring that every scholar gets what they need to be successful in and out of the classroom and living a growth mindset (I believe in the power of yet!); I look forward to continuing that work in this role and getting to know everyone!
A little bit about me...
I am Greek, and originally from Greece, but grew up in Chicago, IL with my mom and sister! I have a Bachelor's degree in Political Science and French from Knox College (a wonderful small liberal arts school in the middle of nowhere Illinois), and a Master's Degree in Special Education from Dominican University. I have a deep passion for the Arts, especially theater, and LOVE Broadway!
Over the course of my career, I have been a Math Interventionist, Special Education Teacher, Site Manager of an AmeriCorps education program, Director of Special Education, and a Middle School Assistant Principal of Instruction and Student Services.
Throughout each of these positions, I learned how integral social emotional learning was in the classroom, how personalized learning could be incorporated in every content area, and how growth mindset could unleash so much magic in and out of the classroom!
Outside of work, you can find me hanging out with my favorite four-legged pal, Tomato. He is the sweetest and funniest dog, and has taught me the power of loving unconditionally. I also live with my fun loving partner, Paul. We enjoy cooking, baking, biking, hiking, playing board games, and watching our favorite shows together.
🌟 And to wrap it all up, my family, faith, and community keep me rejuvenated and recharged. 🌟
Thanks for reading! 🤩
I can't wait to meet everyone at Westgate and forge these new relationships together.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email and say hi!
