Staff Profile
Hello! My name is Sandy Bonel and I am the 5 – 8 Learning Specialist at Westgate Community School. I believe the purpose of education is to cultivate motivated, resilient and compassionate human beings who have the skills and abilities required to facilitate positive change in the world through integrity, creativity and collaboration. My classroom environment is where discerning, empathetic and creative individuals work together as learners and co-creators in their quest to become lifelong learners. I am dedicated to serving the whole child by creating and implementing individualized learning objectives based on student needs. Each student has unique gifts and my goal is to discover and utilize student strengths to promote self-advocacy, independence, academic, social and personal excellence. Prior to becoming a licensed teacher, I worked for 6 years as a special education paraprofessional at a local charter school. I have a B.A. in Art & Design from Iowa State University and I recently completed my second B.A. in Special Education at Western Governors University. I live in Lafayette, Colorado with my husband and two teenage boys. In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends and family, travel, photography, trail hiking/running, gardening and French cooking.
