Board Meetings
The Westgate Board of Directors generally meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at 12500 Washington Street, Thornton. Enter through the main doors on the south side of the building. Most meetings also have a virtual option, and Occasionally meetings are held entirely virtually. Directions and links to join the meetings are on the Westgate School Calendar (https://www.westgateschool.org/apps/events)
Agendas are posted at least 24 hours in advance. Board meetings are open to the public. There is an open mic opportunity at the beginning of most meetings.
Board Minutes
Board Minutes are available for inspection during normal school office hours, 8:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. on school days. Electronic copies of the minutes since June 2011 are available in the Minutes folder on this page.
Westgate Board of Directors
Dan Obenhaus, President (Term ends 2025)
Dan is in his third year (of his second term) on the Westgate Board of Directors. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Design and Technology from the University of Northern Colorado. After college, Dan landed a job in the theater supply industry and has been a project manager for the infrastructure in theaters, TV studios, and themed entertainment spaces for over 20 years. Dan has a child who graduated Summa Cum Laude from Westgate in the spring of 2023. Dan was a parent at Westgate from 2010-2024.
Corey Arthur, Vice President (Term ends 2027)
Corey ran unopposed for the 2024 board of directors opening and is in the first year of his second term on the Board of Directors. Born and raised in Colorado, he earned his Bachelor's degree from Regis University here in Denver, which has led to a career in video production and editing. Corey and his wife have a daughter in 7th grade and a son in 3rd grade this year. In his spare time, Corey enjoys coaching soccer, family adventures, and new experiences. He is very excited to be a part of the Westgate community and looks forward to being more involved.
Lauren Roybal, Treasurer (Term ends 2025)
Lauren is serving the final year of her second term on the Westgate Board of Directors this year. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado and has her Director Certification in Early Childhood Education. Lauren is also a Montessori certified teacher for ages 2 ½ to 6 years old and is a teacher at a school in Lafayette. When not working, Lauren enjoys spending time with her husband and children. Lauren’s children are in 3rd and 7th grade at Westgate.
Mario Acklin, Secretary (Term ends 2025)
Mario is serving his first term (third year) on the Westgate Board of Directors this year. He currently serves as Regional Director of Service Delivery at All Covered | Konica Minolta for the Western United States. He has had a successful 18-year career working in the IT space, with a focus on network solutions, virtualization, and service delivery. Mario has lived in Colorado for 37 years with his wife of 21 years and two children, Dominica (who graduated Cum Laude from Westgate in the spring of 2023), and Idris, a junior. His wife, Michele, is a proud Colorado native. In his spare time, he enjoys camping, working on his home server equipment, and spending time with friends and family.
Carrie Horn, Member (Term ends 2026)
Carrie is in the second year of her first term on the Westgate Board of Directors. Her family has been at Westgate since 2019. Her sons are in the 8th and 10th grades. While originally from the Midwest, Carrie has lived in Colorado for the past 19 years. She enjoys exploring the outdoors as a family, and Colorado has been a perfect fit. Working as a physician over the past three years, she spent a lot of time coordinating response efforts related to the pandemic.
Robin LaRue, Member (Term ends 2026)
Robin is in the second year of her first term on the Westgate Board of Directors. Born and raised in Boston, she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Arts in Education, both from Clark University. For most of her career, Robin has worked with nonprofits that provide advocacy and support to adults living with disabilities. The LaRue children have both been at Westgate since kindergarten and are now in 3rd and 6th grades. Robin enjoys spending time with her husband, kids, and family dogs. She also enjoys hammocks, audiobooks, knitting and (very slowly) running.
