Joining Odyssey means you and your student are committing to be there for their teammates and on the following dates. Give your calendar a double check to make sure these dates work for you:
- Tuesdays after school from 3:45 – 5:30 is when the club meets
- Saturday, Dec. 7, 2019 or Jan. 11, 2019 (Workshop date, only one will be chosen for WCS)
- Saturday, March 14, 2020 (Regional competition to qualify for State)
- Saturday, April 4, 2020 (State competition)
And you should check your calendar for this time window, just in case:
- May 27 – 31 (National competition, Iowa State University, Ames, IA)
We will have a team agreement for parents and students to sign. These will be available at the information night, at the first club meeting and on the club site after the first information night. The agreement reflects the following points:
- Constructive behavior and cooperation create successful teams
- Committing to attend team meetings as best they can
- Cooperating on whatever solution to the team chooses, even if it’s not their first choice
- Creating the solution, props, costumes and signs without outside assistance
- Competing with respect for teammates, the volunteers and other teams
For parents, we ask commitment of volunteer time (time with the teams, volunteering at tournaments) and engagement (but no outside assistance) with your student’s team. Odyssey of the Mind does not happen solely during club meeting time and you and your student should expect outside work, workshop days and tournament commitments.
