CMAS Practice Email That Would Not Send

Hi all,

On Thursday, I sent your student home with a blue folder containing practice materials for math, reading, writing, and social studies. While this work is not required, I highly recommend it, as we will begin CMAS testing immediately after spring break. I have also attached the materials to this email in case the folder happens to disappear from their backpacks.

Below, you’ll find helpful websites for students to practice math and typing skills, as well as access to CMAS practice exams. In class, we have been working on using the tools provided in the test and navigating it effectively. We also discussed bookmarking writing sections to avoid surprises when they appear in the language arts test.

I understand that jumping into testing right after the break can feel daunting, but we are doing everything we can to create a positive and stress-free testing environment. themselves, that is all that matters. I've been reminding students that a single test does not define their abilities or who they are. What truly matters is that they put forth their best effort, showcase what they've learned, and believe in themselves. At home, please encourage your student to get a good night's sleep and eat a nutritious breakfast to set them up for success.

I hope you all have a wonderful Spring Break!

3/17-3/21

This week, we are focusing on CMAS preparation and review. Students will practice navigating the test, managing their time effectively, and recalling important information from memory.

At the end of the week, you will receive an email with resources and activities to help your student prepare over spring break. I will also be sending home optional practice work, which I highly recommend reviewing to ensure they are ready to dive into testing.

3/10-3/14

We are finishing our long unit on fractions this week. We will go over multiplication with fractions, whole numbers, and mixed numbers. Then, we will transition to relating fractions to decimals.

We will also start reviewing for CMAS, which is coming up in April.

3/3-3/5

This week we will work on multiplying fractions by mixed numbers (and simplifying) and mixed numbers by mixed numbers.

2/24-2/28

This week we will continue to learn how to convert mixed numbers to improper fractions.

Students have all created accounts on Khan Academy. If you would like extra math practice at home, I recommend using their accounts (if your student does not remember their log-in information, please let me know and I can email it to you).

2/18-2/21

This week we will continue to learn about simplifying improper fractions to mixed numbers and multiplying fractions by whole numbers.

I have sent home a couple of tests recently, so please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

2/10-2/14

This week we will transition into learning about simplifying fractions (into smaller fractions and mixed numbers) and multiplying fractions by whole numbers and other fractions.

Some students will continue to learn about adding fractions and mixed numbers.

2/3/-2/7

This week we are continuing to learn about fractions! We will be learning about fractions for the next few months. This week we are focusing on adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers with the same denominators. As a challenge, we will learn about adding and subtracting mixed numbers with different denominators.

1/27-1/31

This week we are continuing to learn about fractions! We will be learning about fractions for the next few months. This week we are focusing on being able to identify fractions on a number line, as well as comparing fractions on a number line.

I will be sending home some practice work for those who would like to complete it. It is not required or graded.

1/21-1/24

This week we are finishing pattern recognition with numbers, shapes, and input/output charts and moving on to the best unit: fractions! Fractions can be challenging for some students, so if you need extra resources or ideas on what to review at home, please let me know.

We are beginning our unit by reviewing the basics of fractions (numerator, denominator, identifying fractions). Then we will move on to comparing fractions (greater than, less than, or equal).

1/13-1/17

This week we are reviewing what we have learned so far this school year. We are focusing heavily on multiplication, division, and fact families. We will work on factors, multiples, and patterns in multiplication.

12/16-12/20

This week we are learning about factor pairs, multiples, and patterns in multiplication/division. Please practice basic multiplication and division facts at home. This unit will be very challenging without these skills.

12/9-12/13

This week we are doing a review of multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction before we take our long division test. We will also be learning about long division with remainders.
