Freeland's Literacy Update Week of 11/18

Hello families! We had a great week in 2nd grade! Here is what we will be learning in Literacy the week of November 18th 

Foundational Skills/Phonics: We will be reviewing words that are spelled with a, a-e, ai, and ay. 

This week our focal text is “Gross Jobs” with this text we will be focusing on a different skill each day.  

Our literacy skills this week: 

  • Ask and Answer Questions 
  • Make Connections 
  • Classify and categorize 
  • Main Idea and details 

Writing: This week students will be continuing with their informative writing. 

 

We have a great week learning ahead of us!

Hello families! We have a had a great week in 2nd grade! Here is what we will be learning in Literacy the week of November 11th:

Foundational Skills/Phonics: We will be reviewing words that are spelled with ee and ea.

This week our focal text is “In My Backyard” with this text we will be focusing on a different skill each day.

Our literacy skills this week:

  • Sequencing
  • Point of View
  • Vocabulary
  • Author’s Purpose

Writing: This week students will be continuing with their informative writing.

This week our focal text is the “Ellie’s Long Walk” with this text we will be focusing on a different skill each day.

  • Vocabulary
  • Main Idea and Details
  • Ask and Answer Questions
  • Summarizing

Writing: This week students will continue writing an opinion paper about a topic of their choice and use examples to support their opinions.

This week our focal text is the “The Final Game” with this text we will be focusing on a different skill each day.

Our literacy skills this week:

  • Main Idea and Details
  • Making Inferences

Writing: This week students will be writing an opinion paper about a topic of their choice and use examples to support their opinions.

Hello families! We have a had a great week in 2nd grade! Here is what we will be learning in Literacy the week of September 3rd:

Foundational Skills/Phonics: We will be reviewing the closed syllable words as well as -ng, -nk, and -ing endings.

This week our focal text is the “A Cherokee Stickball Game” with this text we will be focusing on a different skill each day.

Our literacy skills this week:

  • Summarizing
  • Vocabulary
  • Sequencing
  • Cause and Effect

Writing: This week we will be reviewing the necessary components of opinion papers and strengthening our opinions with examples.

Freeland's Literacy Update Week of 8/26

Hello families! We have a had a great week in 2nd grade! Here is what we will be learning in Literacy the week of August 26th:

Foundational Skills/Phonics: We will be reviewing the closed syllable words as well as -es, -s, and -ed endings.

This week our focal text is the “Bats, Birds, and Beasts” with this text we will be focusing on a different skill each day.

Our literacy skills this week:

  • Ask and Answer questions
  • Vocabulary
  • Classify and Categorize
  • Cause and Effect

Writing: This week we will be learning the about the editing and revising stage of writing. By the end of the week, students will present their final papers to the class.

Hello families! We have a had a great week in 2nd grade! Here is what we will be learning in Literacy the week of August 19th:

Foundational Skills/Phonics: We will be reviewing the closed syllable words as well as -dge, -ck, and -tch endings.

This week our focal text is the “Ants and Aphids Work Together” with this text we will be focusing on a different skill each day.

Our literacy skills this week:

  • Clarifying
  • Vocabulary
  • Main Idea and Details
  • Compare and Contrast
  • Author’s Purpose
  • Text Features

Writing: This week we will be learning the basics of a paragraph as well as learning about opinion papers. By the end of the week we will have written an opinion paragraph.

Hello families! We have a had a great first week in 2nd grade! Here is what we will be learning in Literacy the week of August 12th:

We will be taking the MAP test for reading on Tuesday August 13th

Foundational Skills/Phonics: We will be reviewing the -ch, -sh, and -wh digraphs.

This week our focal text is the “Mice who lived in a Shoe” with this text we will be focusing on a different skill each day.

Our literacy skills this week:

  • Making Predictions
  • Inferring
  • Vocabulary
  • Cause and Effect
  • Character and Setting

Writing: This week we will be learning the basics of a paragraph as well as learning about opinion papers. By the end of the week, we will have written an opinion paragraph.
