5th and 6th Music

Students will be learning guitar technique and chords this rotation. We will begin with classroom expectations and assigned seating. They'll learn how to transport and hold a guitar appropriately, how to hold a pick and strum, and a few basic "one-finger" chords.

If a student has their own guitar from home, I encourage them to bring it to school.

The first song they're learning is Oh My Darlin' - working on switching between two chords (G and D7) while keeping a steady beat.

5th and 6th Grade Music Week 2

This week, students will use the technique and skills they've been practicing to perform "Oh, My Darlin'" for each other.

They've rehearsed the chords G and D7 and they will put that into practice in small groups in order to practice strumming in a steady beat and switching between the two chords at the correct time.

They will use lead sheet notation and counting to stay together.

For the performance, they will play G and D7 for two verses of Oh My Darlin' while the rest of the class sings one verse and one chorus, listening for:
- steady tempo
- correct strumming
- correct chords (in the right places)
- correct hand position
